Welcome

Now accepting new students for Fall 2009!  The studio is located in SW Portland.

I teach beginning to advanced students aged 6 through adult.  I love being challenged and inspired by my students’ talents and interests.  Each student has a unique way of connecting with music and it is exciting to see them grow as performers, composers, teachers, accompanists and active listeners.

I develop an individualized curriculum for each student that incorporates repertoire, theory, technique, history and composition.   I encourage collaboration and camaraderie through group lessons.  Generally, I offer six group lessons per school year, dividing students into groups of 4-6.  The groups work on ensemble playing, history projects, group and individual compositions, and improvisation.

My love of piano stems from my own work as a performing artist.  Through my own practice, I am inspired with new musical ideas and practice techniques to pass on to my students.  Students in my studio have many opportunities to share their music in recitals, festivals and competitions in addition to the group classes.   Piano is a long term goal that involves not only musical growth but personal growth as well.  It takes commitment, patience, and a willing and open mind on the part of the student and the teacher.    Music learning is a dynamic journey that will impact on lives in ways we can never predict.
